Jesus had travelled to Jerusalem for a feast. While he was there, he saw a paralysed man lying by the side of the pool of Bethesda. Jesus asked the man “Do you want to be made well?” the man replied “sir I have no man to put me in the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” Jesus said to the man “Rise, take up your bed and walk” and the bible says immediately the man was made well.
Now this happened on a special day called the Sabbath. One of the rules of the Sabbath said you couldn’t do any work; and another said you couldn’t carry your bed. So when the Jews and Rulers saw this man walking around carrying his bed they stopped him and said “it is not lawful for you to carry your bed” but the man replied “he who has made me well told me to take up my bed and walk” so the Jews asked him “well who is this man?” but the man who was made well didn’t know.
Later Jesus saw him in the temple and the man recognised him, Jesus said to him “see, you have been made well. Sin no more lest a worse thing come upon you”. The man was pleased to find out who had made him well, so pleased that he went and found the Jews to tell them it was Jesus who had made him well. He also listened to Jesus and tried to sin no more as Jesus had told him. This man trusted Jesus to heal him and to take away his sins.
