Don’t be greedy

A man came to Jesus and asked Him to make his brother share the inheritance from their parents. Jesus told a story about a farmer.

In Jesus’ story there was a farmer who had a great year and grew lots and lots of crops. He grew so many that he didn’t have room in his barns to store them all so he planned to build more barns to fit his crops in. The farmer didn’t think about God in all the plans he was making. Sadly, this farmer died that night before he could build the bigger barns.

Jesus said the farmer in this story didn’t think about God or what would happen when he died, he only thought about his crops and building bigger barns to store them in. Jesus told the people listening that it’s more important to store treasures in heaven than on this earth.

Meeting Jesus

After Jesus’ death on the cross, some of the disciples decided to go out fishing. As they were fishing, a man called out from the shore to ask if they’d caught any fish. They replied that they hadn’t. The man on the shore told them to cast their nets on the other side of the boat.

When the disciples did that they caught lots of fish in their nets. They thought that this man on the shore must be Jesus. Peter jumped off the boat into the sea and began swimming back to shore to see Jesus.

Once all the disciples reached the shore, they saw Jesus had lit a fire and he asked for some of the fish to cook.

Sadness and surprise

After Jesus had been arrested in the garden He was taken away and put on trial before Pontius Pilate. Pontius Pilate said he couldn’t find any fault in Him but still sentenced Him to be crucified. Jesus was crucified on a hill between two thieves, one of the thieves mocked him but the other asked Jesus to remember him when he died, Jesus said “today you will be with me in paradise.”

After Jesus had died, His body was taken and buried in a tomb, which was guarded by soldiers. Mary Magdalene and Mary went to visit the garden the day after the Sabbath but when they got there the stone had been rolled away and the tomb was empty. An angel was there and told them that Jesus had risen from the dead just like He said He would. Mary and Mary went to find the disciples to tell them and John believed straight away.

Later on when all the disciples were together, Jesus appeared in front of them and they knew it was Him because they could see the marks on His hands and feet so they knew He had risen from the dead.

Tears of sadness

Jesus was taken to the high priest with Peter following him at a distance. False witnesses were brought in to tell lies about Jesus.

Peter was outside in the courtyard and a servant said to him “Weren’t you with Jesus?” Peter denied it saying he didn’t know what they were talking about.

Another girl saw him and said “You were one of Jesus followers weren’t you?” Again Peter denied and said “I don’t know Him”

A third time someone said to Peter, “You sound like one of the men who followed Jesus”. Peter got angry and said he didn’t know Jesus.

As soon as he denied Jesus the third time, the rooster crowed and Peter remembered what Jesus had said to him. He left and wept because he’d denied knowing Jesus.

A false kiss

Jesus knew He was going to be arrested, face a trial and be crucified. He told His disciples that tonight they would all run away and leave Him but after He had risen again they would see Him in Galilee.

Peter responded and said he would never leave Jesus no matter what happened. Jesus said to Peter before the rooster crows tomorrow morning you will deny you even knew me 3 times.

Jesus wanted to pray to God about what was going to happen so took Peter, James and John to the garden of Gethsemane. He left them to watch and pray while He went to pray to God.

When Jesus returned He found the disciples asleep. Three times Jesus went to pray and came back to the disciples asleep. After the third time a large crowd of men with swords and clubs came through garden led by Judas.

Judas greeted Jesus with a kiss so that the crowd knew which man to arrest and take away. One of the disciples drew a sword and cut off a servants ear. Jesus told His disciple that this was all Gods plan and He healed the servants ear.

Jesus was taken away by the crowd and all His disciples ran away.

Running away from God Part 2

Once Jonah had been spat out the fish God told him again to go to Nineveh and tell the people to repent and follow Him. Jonah agreed to go this time.

He told the people in Nineveh God’s message, the people listened and repented, turned to God and asked Him for forgiveness. To show how sorry they were they put on sack cloth. God forgave the people of Nineveh and didn’t destroy them.

Jonah was angry that God had forgiven Nineveh. He was sat on a hill waiting to see the destruction of Nineveh, but it never came. God caused a plant to grow up and shade Jonah because it was so hot.

The next morning the plant had been eaten by a worm and had withered away. Jonah was even more angry that this had happened. God spoke to Jonah and told him that he cared more for the plant than he did for the people of Nineveh.

Running Away From God

God told Jonah to go to a place called Ninevah to tell them that God would punish them for doing wrong things if they didn’t say sorry and change. Jonah didn’t want to go to Ninevah though so he went to Tarshish and got on a boat to sail the other way.

While on the boat they sailed into a big storm and it was so bad they thought they were going to die. The sailors found out that it was Jonah who had caused the storm because he had disobeyed God. The sailors threw Jonah into the sea and immediately the storm stopped.

God sent a big fish to swallow Jonah and he stayed inside it for 3 days and 3 nights. While he was in the fish Jonah prayed and said sorry to God for disobeying Him and said he would go to Ninevah like God had told him to do.

The man up a tree

A tax collector called Zaccheus wanted to see Jesus but he was so small he couldn’t see anything over the crowd. He decided to climb up a sycamore tree so that he could see Jesus coming.

As Jesus passed by the tree he looked up and spoke to Zacchaeus and said He was coming to Zacchaeus’ house. The people in the crowd didn’t like that because Zaccheus stole money from the people when he was collecting taxes.

After Zacchaeus had met with Jesus he completely changed, gave half his money to the poor and paid back anyone he had cheated four times the amount.

Jesus said “Today salvation has come to this house”.

The Rich Young Ruler

A rich young ruler from the temple asked Jesus a very important question, he wanted to know how he could inherit eternal life.

Jesus told him to sell all his riches and give the money to the poor but this made the young man sad because he loved all the things that made him rich.

Jesus explained to His disciples that we need to put God first and not money, we need to trust in Jesus to forgive us our sins and that Jesus is the only way to heaven.

The Samaritan Woman

Jesus and his disciples walked from Judea towards Galilee through Samaria. Jesus sat down by a well and when a lady came along to the well to get water Jesus asked her for a drink.

She was shocked Jesus had spoken to her because Jewish men didn’t talk to Samaritan women.

Jesus told her he could give her living water. She thought Jesus was talking about a well that would never run out. But Jesus was talking about giving this woman a new life.

Jesus asked her to go and get her husband, but the lady said to Him “I don’t have a husband”. Jesus knew she didn’t have a husband and said to her “That’s right, you’ve had 5 husbands and the man you live with now is not your husband.” The lady was amazed and thought that Jesus was a prophet because He knew all about her but she’d never met Him before.

The lady said to Jesus “I know that the Messiah is coming” Jesus said to her “I am He”

The lady believed and went and told everyone in the village about meeting Jesus. Many of those Samaritans came from the town to see and meet Jesus for themselves.
