The Man Who Came At Night

There was a Pharisee called Nicodemus who went to see Jesus at night because he didn’t want other people to know he had gone to see Jesus.

Jesus said to Nicodemus “I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Nicodemus was confused by what Jesus said and asked how he could be born again.

Jesus spoke these words to Nicodemus: “For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believe in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

The Woman Who Cried

Jesus went to the house of a Pharisee called Simon for a meal. A lady turned up to the house and fell at Jesus feet crying. She broke a jar of expensive perfume on His feet and cleaned them with her hair.

Some of the people who saw this lady thought, doesn’t Jesus know this woman is a sinner. Jesus told them all a story.

There were two men who owed another man some money. One man owed 50 coins, the other man owed 500 coins. The man who was owed the money decided to forgive both men of their debt so they didn’t owe any money anymore.

Jesus asked Simon, which of the men who had their debts forgiven would love the man more? Simon answered, the man who owed him more money. Jesus said, that’s right.

Jesus told them this lady has come in, washed my feet with her tears and anointed them with this expensive oil. Therefore her sins have been forgiven for she loved her. Jesus said to her “Your faith has saved you. God in peace.”

Paul in prison

While in Philippi preaching, Paul and Silas came across a girl who was owned by two men. This girl was possessed by a demon which let her tell the future which made the men lot of money.

While Paul was preaching the demon began shouting that Paul and Silas were preaching the real God and the truth. Paul cast out the demon from the girl, but the men who made the money were angry at him for doing this.

They brought Paul and Silas to the rulers of the city and the men told lies about them. The rulers decided to have Paul and Silas whipped, beaten and thrown in prison.

Even in prison Paul and Silas were singing praise and praying to God.

At midnight a huge earthquake struck the prison and the doors were broken open allowing the prisoners to escape. The jailer in charge knew he’d be in trouble for this so he was about to kill himself. Paul shouted for him to stop and told him none of the prisoners had escaped.

The jailer fell at Paul’s feet and asked “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” Paul told him “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved”.

The jailer and his family believe Paul’s message about Jesus and were baptised to show they had been forgiven and their lives had been changed.

Paul has a vision

Paul has set off to tell people about Jesus with 3 friends, Timothy, Silas and Luke.

One night Paul had a vision which was a special message from God. In the vision there was a man from begging Paul to travel to Macedonia and tell people about Jesus. So they set off from Troas and sailed to Neopolis and then on to Philippi in Macedonia.

There was no Synagogue in Macedonia so Paul and his 3 friends went down to the river and met a lady there called Lydia. God opened Lydia’s heart to the things Paul was saying about Jesus and she realised that she needed to follow Him.

As they were by a river, Lydia and other people from her family had become Christians were baptised as a sign of the change that had happened in her heart.

God uses Paul to heal a man

There was man who lived in Lystra who wasn’t able to walk. One day Paul arrived in Lystra, went to this man who couldn’t walk and told him to stand up straight.

This man who couldn’t walk, suddenly got up and leapt! God had performed a miracle through Paul to enable him to walk.

Everyone who saw this were amazed and thought Paul was a kind of god and began to worship him. Paul said to the people we’re not special and we’re not gods, don’t worship us. You must worship the true living God because He’s the one who has made this man able to walk.

Many of the Jews in Lystra heard and saw what Paul was doing and when they found him began throwing stones at Paul to try and kill him. Paul was hurt so much that people thought he was dead. But God was with Paul and saved him.

Paul and Barnabas visit Cyprus

Paul and Barnabas got on a boat and sailed to Cyprus and went to a town called Salamis. They began to preach to people about Jesus and how he came to save people from their sins.

They made their way through Cyprus to a town called Paphos and met Sergius and Elymas. Sergius wanted to hear the message that Paul and Barnabas were preaching to people. But Elymas didn’t like Paul or Barnabas or the message they were preaching.

Paul pointed to Elymas and said “You are full of deceit and like a son of the devil.” Paul was telling Elymas that he was evil and wicked. Paul told Elymas “The hand of the Lord is upon you and you shall be blind”. Elymas lost his sight just like Paul had on the road to Damascas a few weeks ago.

Sergius was astonished at what he had seen and he believed Paul and Barnabas’ message about Jesus.

Saul speaks about Jesus

Once Saul had become a Christian he wanted to tell other people what had happened to him and who he now believed Jesus was. When the Jews heard what Saul was now saying, they planned to kill him. Saul had to escape in a basket out the city wall and he headed for Jerusalem.

The disciples in Jerusalem were afraid of Saul. There was one man called Barnabas who wasn’t afraid of Saul and took him to the Apostles so they could hear what had happened to Saul on the road to Damascus.

Barnabas went from Jerusalem to Antioch to encourage the Christians there. Paul later joined him and they spent a year at the church in Antioch preaching and helping the church tell others about Jesus.

Saul on the road to Damascus

As Saul was heading to Damascus he saw a light so bright he had to cover his eyes and he fell to the ground. He heard God’s voice ask Him why are you persecuting me? The Lord said to Saul go to Damascus and you will be told what to do.

When Saul opened his eyes, he couldn’t see anything. Saul knew who had spoken to him and now believed in God. Because Saul was blind he had to be led to a house in Damascus on straight street and he didn’t eat or drink anything for three days. He felt so sorry for all the bad things he’d done against Christians.

God spoke to a man called Ananias and told him to go and see Saul. Anaias was scared because he had heard about what Saul had done to Christians, but God told him that He had changed Saul.

Ananias entered the house where Saul was and laid his hands on him. As soon as Ananias did that, Saul was able to see again and he went and was baptized.

A Man Healed at the Pool of Bethesda

Jesus had travelled to Jerusalem for a feast. While he was there, he saw a paralysed man lying by the side of the pool of Bethesda. Jesus asked the man “Do you want to be made well?” the man replied “sir I have no man to put me in the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” Jesus said to the man “Rise, take up your bed and walk” and the bible says immediately the man was made well.

Now this happened on a special day called the Sabbath. One of the rules of the Sabbath said you couldn’t do any work; and another said you couldn’t carry your bed. So when the Jews and Rulers saw this man walking around carrying his bed they stopped him and said “it is not lawful for you to carry your bed” but the man replied “he who has made me well told me to take up my bed and walk” so the Jews asked him “well who is this man?” but the man who was made well didn’t know.

Later Jesus saw him in the temple and the man recognised him, Jesus said to him “see, you have been made well. Sin no more lest a worse thing come upon you”. The man was pleased to find out who had made him well, so pleased that he went and found the Jews to tell them it was Jesus who had made him well. He also listened to Jesus and tried to sin no more as Jesus had told him. This man trusted Jesus to heal him and to take away his sins.

Jesus heals a centurion’s servant

There was a Roman centurion in a town called Capernaum who had a servant who was very ill. This centurion cared about his servant so he went to the Jewish leaders to ask them if Jesus could heal his servant.

The Jewish leaders liked this centurion because he had helped them and done good things for the Jews. So they came to Jesus and told Him about the centurion’s servant and about all the good things the centurion had done.

As Jesus was walking to the centurions house, more of the centurions servants came and met Jesus with a message from him. They said to Jesus the centurion says “I am not worthy that you should come to my house, but just say the word and my servant will be healed.”

Jesus was amazed a the centurions faith, that he believed Jesus would just be able to speak and the servant would be healed. Immediately the servant was healed.

Jesus has authority over everything on earth, all sickness, need and other powers.

Jesus hears our prayers and answers them from Heaven – our biggest need is to be forgiven from our sins, by having faith that Jesus’ death and rising from the dead can make us right with God.
